Happy Snow day Little House Families! February 2017 Finally, winter has arrived! I'm not sure about you, but we have been missing snow to play in, eat, make snowmen, forts.... Let's hope this latest snow fall sticks around a little bit longer than the last! Our Journey through the alphabet started in late January. We are focusing on one (sometimes two) letters per week. On Mondays we read a poem that focuses on that letter, make the letter with our letter sticks and as a group, make the letter with our bodies. Tuesdays we work in a "hand-writing-without-tears" work book, concentrating on the pages that pertain to our letter of the week. Before we begin, we make sure our bodies are comfortable in our chairs and that we are sitting properly. We work on following directions and proper hand grip. Wednesdays we brainstorm a list of words that start with our letter of the week, and usually we spend the rest of the day recognizing some additional words to add to our list! This journey will most likely continue through the end of the year. It's February and that means VALENTINE's DAY and what a perfect thing to do on a snowy day off from school, make homemade valentine day cards! We are going to celebrate Valentine's day next Tuesday, February 14th. This will be a simple in-school celebration, marked with a special story and a special cookie treat that we will make during the day. It would be lovely if your child could bring in a simple homemade valentine (this could be as simple as a heart drawn cut out, no character cards or candy please) with just "Love or From...your child's name" on the back. One for everyone please, there will be an envelope for me too. Monday friends are welcome to bring theirs in on Monday and I'll make sure they get delivered. I have been starting to field some inquiries about Little House school's enrollment for the 2017-2018 school year. As much as I would love for everyone to stay with me forever (I'm really not kidding) it's inevitable that some friends will be moving on. If you are a family that is considering enrolling your child next year, it would be helpful if you responded (via email is fine) with an informal indication that you might return and for how many days. You will not be held to this early enrollment decision, but it is helpful to me if I know how many spots are available. I would like to firm up my class list by June. Thanks! Thank you all for supporting this big dream of mine, of helping children remain in their world of wonder, for as long as we can let them. I hope you get some time today to enjoy this beautiful snowy day! Warmly Kimberly FEBRUARY CALENDAR February 14th - Valentine's celebration February 20th-22nd NO SCHOOL winter break "Play is the highest form of research" -Albert Einstein "Play gives children a chance to practice what they are learning."- Mr. Rogers Good morning Little House School families!
January 2017 I hope you all have had a lovely holiday break and within the flurry of activity you found some moments of rest and rejuvenation. We have been very busy here on Little House Farm, our Christmas surprise for our children (and yours) was the addition of a Pony and Donkey! We are all very excited and they are settling quite nicely and making friends with the goats. Isabel (Pony) and Stuart (Donkey) came to us from a small farm in Belfast. They were well loved by an older couple that looked to down size their farm. They are comfortable living with goats and have been handled by children, but are considered "green" because they have not been ridden or harnessed to a cart. The two of them came as a couple (they are the best of friends) and they are the gentlest of souls. We will not be going into the goat/Pony/Donkey pen any time soon and our first week back we will spend talking about Pony/Donkey care. Our veterinarian visits on Wednesday as well as the local Farrier, so there will be a lot to observe and discuss. We ask that you not feed them out of your hand (good horse etiquette cautions you to never mix treats with your fingers) and I will be outside Tuesday Morning for a little meet and greet. Some January reminders as we enter deep winter: -When dressing your child for the day, please remember that base layers work best when they are in direct contact with your skin. For example, this is what I typically wear on a winter day: wool base layer top and bottom wool socks cotton dress wool sweater then we go outside: snow pants winter coat hat wool mittens inside waterproof mittens wool neck warmer -Please avoid all cotton against the skin -Add a neck warmer or scarf to your child's bag each day, this is essential for proper winter warmth -school cancellations follow AOS 93 and I will text you @6:30am with an update. If you'd like to know earlier (I get an alert @5:30), please feel free to text and I'll let you know the info that I have -You are welcome to continue to use the forest parking lot, BUT at your own risk! Mr. Adam will not be maintaining this parking lot thru the winter. I've missed you all so much and I can't wait to get back to our little School House! Warmly, Kimberly January Calendar reminder: January 20th MLK day NO SCHOOL

We are excited to announce that we will be opening on September 8 in Damariscotta! The paperwork has been submitted to the Planning Board, our licensing has been started, and this weekend we will start to clear the trees from our classroom site.
